Teaching Peace in Yoga Class

...e more literal about it as well encouraging students to draw peace into their body with each inhalation and release tension with each exhalation. Simply following the breath brings peace to the body and mind.

When leading guided relaxation help students to become aware of the spaces in their bodies where peace already exists. Then use breath and yoga postures to expand that feeling of peace throughout the class.

Mantras are a particularly effective way to shift our minds towards peace. I love Tich Nhat Hanhs mantra from Peace is Every Step Breathing in I calm my body, Breathing out I smile. Tich Nhat Hanh teaches that peace and happiness are available to use if we can quiet our distracted minds.

The single pointed focus of yoga can help students move away from multi-tasking common in todays frantic world. Yoga postures and breath practice naturally center our students in a way that calms the mind and emotions giving a sense of peace.

When teaching the physical postures remind students to come into the present moment and become fully aware of their bodies. The postures can be an opportunity to let go of the worries of the past and future and come into the present moment of the body.

Most Yoga teachers realize a few people are on call, but they cannot be allowed to disrupt what the majority of Yoga students seek. Most Yoga students come to your classes to find a piece of tranquility. They want to get away from cell phones, multi-tasking, deadlines, and a hectic work day. Keep your body clean. It bothers all of us, if we have to remind a student of this. This is a tough but necessary guideline. Even though you might use common sense, someone eventually will enter the Yoga studio, and your nostrils will never forget the experience.

Manufacturing companies, with workers who assemble products, also see a multitude of injuries - from industrial accidents to repetitive motion injuries - specific to the job. Yoga instructors can teach how to shift weight properly without injury. Developing awareness, or living in the moment, can also help reduce accidents.

The fact is, Yoga training is totally beneficial to all workers, regardless of their specific duties. It is the responsibility of Yoga teachers to convey this message to the corporate decision makers and the public. Job opportunities for Yoga teachers are all around us, but we must act in order for the corporate world to react.

A Discussion of Yoga for arthritis

... together because yoga, when done properly, is actually a very gentle yet effective exercise method. It is calming and helps relieve stress while providing the benefits of other exercise programs while also providing some of its own. Along that line, yoga becomes additionally empowering in that, in addition to the benefits of exercise, and reduction of stress, yoga increases self confidence and aids in concentration, often allowing the individual to find unique insight into problems or difficulties at many levels.

Yoga is easily learned, allows the practitioner to progress at his or her pace, requires little or no special equipment (some do yoga nude), requires little space, and can easily fit into almost any schedule, even being cut up into several short sessions instead of one longer one. Many people enjoy the calming nature of yoga, particularly if they are facing other difficulties such as arthritis or many other physical conditions. Yoga can be a group activity or can be practiced alone. It can be learned with the aid of formal instruction, or a certain degree of competence can be acquired through the use of books and videos on the subject.

Last, but perhaps not least, many people just plain enjoy yoga, arthritis sufferers included.
